Macallum New Energy Limited Announce recent progress

On July 15, Macallum New Energy Limited (ASX:MNE) shared with the market an update on their seismic processing of data acquired during the Barberton 3D seismic survey within exploration permit EP-494 in the onshore North Perth Basin.

Completed in May 2026, the Barberton 3D seismic survey acquired 117km2 of new 3D seismic data over two Jurassic aged gas leads, Yarra and Gadee, previously identified on existing 2D seismic data. Velseis in Brisbane are processing the survey data, with final products due in August.

MNE report that results from an interim fast-track data volume are positive, with the survey meeting its primary objective to provide a more complete subsurface image of the Yarra and Gadee gas leads.

Quarterly Updates Highlight Cooper Basin Activity

Reviewing the quarterly updates from operators in the Cooper Basin points to ongoing activity with some exciting results reported.

During the last quarter, Santos reported drilling 21 wells across the Cooper Basin including 17 gas and four oil wells with 14 of them connected for production. They continue their flood recovery works following last year’s unprecedented flood event, despite record local rainfall, with 10 flood-impacted wells returned to production during the quarter. A further 30 development wells are drilled but unconnected, awaiting access to be restored.

JV Partner Beach reports that the wells they participated in included exploration success at the Kwagga and Chinstrap fields, with Kwagga 1 discovering gas in both the primary Toolachee Fm target, and also the secondary Patchawarra Fm, whilst Chinstrap 1 discovered gas in the Callamurra Sst.

With great sadness we announce the passing of a well known and much loved character of the Australian oil industry. Richard Beare, dearly loved husband of Narelle and loving father to Alexander, Oliver, Eliza and Victoria, passed away suddenly on the 24 July 2026 at the age of 61.

Richard had an exciting career in the oil & gas industry with a focus on Exploration within Australia. He graduated from Flinders Uni in 1986 with a BSc (Geological and Earth Sciences/Geosciences) with Honours.

Constellation gets green light for Edmund–Collier gas exploration

Constellation Resources has been granted two Special Prospecting Authorities with Acreage Options (SPA-AOs) covering a combined 18,404 km² of Western Australia’s underexplored Edmund–Collier Basin.

The authorities, SPA 48 AO and SPA 49 AO, will allow Constellation to advance exploration targeting naturally occurring hydrogen, helium and natural gas through on-ground gas surveys and further geological and petrophysical studies.

Despite limited historical petroleum exploration, the Proterozoic Edmund–Collier Basin has produced several indications of subsurface gas. In 1977, AMOCO Minerals’ percussion hole JRP-TP-03 recorded a pressurised gas outburst and surface ignition at approximately 300m sub-surface.

More recent investigations have detected hydrogen, helium and hydrocarbon gases, including methane and ethane, within the basin, providing further evidence of an active subsurface gas system.

Tamboran completes largest Beetaloo stimulation campaign

Tamboran Resources has successfully completed stimulation and activities on the Shenandoah South 3H (SS-3H), SS-4H and SS-5H wells in the Northern Pilot Area of the Beetaloo Basin.

The program represents the first three-well zipper stimulation undertaken in the basin, with 178 stages placed across approximately 30,000 feet within the Mid Velkerri B Shale formation, which represents the largest stimulation campaignundertaken in the Beetaloo Basin to date.

The three Shenandoah South wells are planned to be tied into the Sturt Plateau Compression Facility, where construction is nearing completion.

Each year the Australian Energy Producers Conference & Exhibition brings together the brightest minds in the energy sector to exchange ideas, challenge thinking and showcase innovation. The 2027 Conference will be held in Perth from 17-20 May 2027.

Australian Energy Producers have opened the Call for Papers for submissions to create the Technical & Business Program. The Technical & Business Program is again generously sponsored by bp and will feature both oral and visual (poster) presentations, selected through the Call for Papers process.

Submissions are invited from both Australian and overseas contributors, from diverse backgrounds, disciplines and perspectives, on a wide range of technical and strategic issues that shape our industry.

NZ Awards First Exploration Acreage since ban reversal

New Zealand has awarded its first new offshore petroleum exploration permit since the 2018 ban reversal, granting Australian company EnZed Energy a 12-year permit in the Taranaki Basin to explore the Kaheru prospect, located east of the Kupe gas field.

“This permit marks a major milestone for New Zealand’s energy sector and shows that without doubt, we are open for business,” says Resources Minister Shane Jones.

Gold Hydrogen Announce Flow Test Success at Ramsay 1

Gold Hydrogen Limited (ASX: GHY) has successfully completed appraisal flow testing at the Ramsay 1 exploration well in South Australia's Yorke Peninsula. This is the first time in 3 years that Helium has been produced within Australia, and comes at a time of global shortages. Whilst at an early stage, Gold Hydrogen are targeting commercial scale production within 18 months.

The Ramsay Project on Yorke Peninsula is an exploration project covering 75,000km2 in PEL687. In 2023, Gold Hydrogen undertook exploration drilling, targeting two areas where historical oil exploration had reported occurrences of natural hydrogen.

Shearwater awarded carbon storage seismic survey contract in Australia

On 29 July, Shearwater Geoservices AS (“Shearwater”) announced they have been awarded a 3D seismic survey contract to support appraisal of the carbon storage potential in the Bonaparte Basin, Northern Australia.

The project is scheduled to start in the third quarter of 2026 and will be executed by the SW Bly, with an expected duration of 50 days. The collected geophysical data will be used to high grade and define future injection well locations and serve as a baseline survey for possible future 4D seismic monitoring.

The survey is Shearwater’s second carbon capture and storage-related survey in the Bonaparte Basin following a similar campaign in 2024, reinforcing the company’s presence in the regional CCS market.
