PESA – ASEG WA Mentoring Program Session
Simon Molyneux facilitated the September interactive session, reminding participants of the mentoring program objectives. The outcome mid-program tracking session was to check-in, invigorate and energise the mentor-mentee partnerships and the Mentimeter was a great way to assess mentors and mentees' satisfaction. When asked on program satisfaction, mentees scored an average of 4.5/5 out of 15 responses and mentors scored an average of 3.4/5 out of 12 responses. Most mentors and mentees have met 3 to 4 times which includes the kick-off and mid-program tracking sessions. Ideally, mentors and mentees should consider catching-up at least once a month. The informal setting of cafes and licensed…

Semester BBQ event at Curtin University
On Wednesday August 22, PESA WA branch teamed up with the Curtin Geology Society (GEOS) to host a barbeque for students. The aim of the event was to improve understanding between students and PESA in an informal setting accompanied with food and drinks, and generate awareness of the society within the greater Curtin geology cohort. The attendees were predominantly undergraduates who were unaware of PESA but very interactive as they were keen to know more about PESA’s activities. The expressions of interests to join PESA with a free student membership were great and we could get valuable feedback on the…

PESA WA hosts another successful field trip for 2018 to Swan Valley
Bright and early on a Sunday morning 20 intrepid PESA members met at the Boab tree in Kings park ready to embark on a tour of the Swan Valley, and an intellectual journey that allowed for the geography of our working lives to be mapped onto the geology, geography and scale of the city we live in. The morning began with an open air “powerpoint” presentation, by trip leaders Simon Lang and Neil Marshall. From a spectacular viewpoint with most of the mid and lower reaches of the Swan river visible, Simon took us through sea…

This will be done through…

Young Professionals in WA
In early April, PESA WA Young Professionals in collaboration with ASEG WA organised the first “Young Professionals Speakers' Night.” The aim of these nights is to encourage the lesser experienced geoscientists to present their work in a welcoming environment and assist their public speaking skills.
We were fortunate to have Amy Millar from Buru Energy present her work, titled “Ungani Oil Field, Canning Basin – Evaluation of a Dolomite Reservoir” which won the Best Oral Presentation in the Energy Section of the AEGC Conference held in Sydney during February 2018. Amy’s presentation was well attended with…
