QLD kick off lunch series with a talk from Dr Julie Pearce

Queensland branch kicked off their 2025 technical lunch season on 20th March at the Hilton, with Dr Julie Pearce from University of Queensland talking about CO2 storage.

Vale Richard (Dick) Paten 21/07/1935 – 23/03/2025

Dick Paten was a well-known and highly respected Queensland geologist who contributed greatly to the petroleum exploration industry and its organisations – including PESA, QUPEX and APEA (the precursor of APPEA, and now AEP).

In 1977, along with Lee Pfitzner and Maurie Drew, he was instrumental in holding the first PESA Queensland Symposium, an event that lives on today.  This event was instigated by the parlous state of petroleum exploration in Queensland at the time: In the words of VG Swindon, the Chair of that first Symposium:

The annual ASEG-PESA golf classic event was held on 15th November in glorious weather at Meadow springs where nearly 100 golfers turned out to compete for glory and prizes.

A new game was played with the Charity hole this year. As in previous years each player paid a donation to the charity to be able to compete to get nearer to the pin than the "pro". But as an added twist this year it was possible to pay an additional sum to the charity in order to "compromise" the pro. These…

The annual ASEG-PESA golf classic event was held on 24th November in scorching temperatures at the Vines golf resort in the Swan Valley. 112 golfers turned out to compete for glory and prizes.

PESA WA Winter warmer at the Museum

Just shy of 100 people showed up to the new WA Museum Boola Bardip for an evening of networking and looking at rocks.

The “origins” gallery was open for members to view before and during the event. This contained an amazing collection of meteorites, a whole area dedicated to stromatolites, and many displays of rocks and minerals. This included the very photogenic thin section tunnel, which is prominent in the photos shown here.

PESA WA Branch Winter Warmer 2019

It’s that blessed time of year when the PESA Winter Warmer provides respite from the weather’s ravages and solace from EOFY traumas. This year, PESA secured the prestigious surroundings of the Celtic Club in West Perth and on a decidedly chilly Friday evening in July a glass of mulled wine on arrival was most welcome. A record turnout of over 80 souls enjoyed the delicious lip-smacking food platters and beverage selection.
