On Sunday 19th July, PESA SA enjoyed a field trip led by David Grybowski to explore the fascinating geology of the Adelaide Hills. Rescheduled from a rain-soaked May date, the day delivered near-perfect weather for the 56km self-drive route from Morialta Gorge to Norton Summit, Mount Lofty and Chambers Gully.
Across six stops and eight drive-by points of interest, participants pieced together the folds, faults and formations of the Adelaide Hills, with David orientating each outcrop against the road network to help the landscape make more sense. Commentary, relayed via handheld UHF radios between cars, kept the whole group informed. Short walks at Morialta and Chambers Gully rounded out a day pairing great geology with spectacular scenery.
PESA SA Field trip coordinator Alex Ross thanked David for volunteering to lead the excursion again, and praised the strong turnout for a trip that finally answered the question many Adelaide Hills drivers have asked: what on earth is going on with these hills?
