It is with great sadness that PESA Queensland shares news of the passing of our former colleague and friend, Farah Fazulah. Farah joined PESA when she moved to Australia and volunteered with the Queensland branch from 2023 before joining the PESA Queensland Committee in early 2024. Bringing her energy and enthusiasm to supporting with technical lunches and other committee events and helping to man the booth at AEP Brisbane in 2025, her energy was shared with the broader federal committee and PESA membership.
Farah moved to Australia and joined Central Petroleum as a geologist in 2021, focused on the Amadeus Basin in the Northern Territory. She described her presentation to the PESA Queensland Symposium (2023) on “Qualitative Facies Identification on a limited dataset in the Amadeus Basin” as a highlight of her time in Australia. From Central Petroleum, Farah joined Santos in November 2023 working on the Cooper Basin with a focus on field development and reservoir management, her combination of geology and petroleum engineering skills providing invaluable insights. During her time with Santos, Farah was known for her helpful, kind, and curious nature. She will be remembered fondly by those who had the privilege of working alongside her.
Farah was also active in social and charitable activities outside of work, regularly volunteering with Foodbank Queensland and Community Friends West End. She brought a warmth and generosity of spirit to all of her endeavours that many of us have come to associate with Malaysian hospitality.
In September 2025, she returned to Malaysia to continue her career in geomodelling and to be closer to her family, joining Vestigo Petroleum (a subsidiary of Petronas) as a Senior Geomodeller. Vestigo Petroleum will be establishing a charitable donation initiative in her memory and we understand details will be shared in due course.
On behalf of PESA, we extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and former colleagues during this difficult time. Farah brought warmth, professionalism, and enthusiasm to her role on the PESA Queensland Committee, and she will be greatly missed by her fellow committee members and the wider PESA community.
