PESA WA Evening Talk: Thursday March 20th 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm @ The Shoe Bar
“Tight Gas Sand Reservoir Evaluation: Basin-Centred Gas Accumulation (BCGA) & Implications on Production & EUR” by Greg Salter, Core Laboratories
The dark art of sub-capillary equilibrium gas, better known to us as basin centred gas, was introduced to a small but enthusiastic group of geoscientists at Faraday’s in Perth on the evening of 20th March, by Greg Salter (VP Eastern Hemisphere, Core Laboratories, based in KL). Basin centred gas is not especially familiar to West Australian geoscientists, even though the Perth Basin is the hot gas play at present. Greg provided an in-depth insight into the Bossier gas play onshore Texas where the concepts to account for unusually low water saturations/high gas saturations, that cannot be predicted by conventional equilibrium state capillary pressure analysis, were developed (Laboratory and Field Observations of an Apparent Sub-Capillary-Equilibrium Water Saturation Distribution in a Tight Gas Sand Reservoir). He also gave us a few clues to picking true “basin centred gas” from imposters. The Perth evening talks are proving to be quite interactive with the more informal setting promoting discussion, and socialising which continued well after the talk. Greg encouraged those members of the community who wish to read more about this topic to reach out to PESA committee members, who can forward some of Greg’s recommended reading material.
