The PESA Federal Committee welcomes Emeritus Professor John Kaldi as the new Federal Vice President. John steps in to replace Matt Densley who had to resign due to other commitments. PESA thanks Matt for his contribution and looks forward to working with John through the remainder of his Vice Presidency term and when he takes on the President role in 2027.
John is an internationally recognized expert in petroleum geology and and carbon capture & storage (CCS). He has made extensive scholarly and professional contributions, including more than 150 peer reviewed publications, as well as a long record of keynote lectures to industry and professional societies. He has served as Distinguished Lecturer for PESA, AAPG and SPE. John’s career includes being the inaugural head of the Australian School of Petroleum (ASP) and earlier, Director of the National Centre for Petroleum Geology and Geophysics (NCPGG) at University of Adelaide. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Indonesia, and has been Visiting Professor at Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), Malaysia.
Prior to academia John spent 18 years in the Petroleum Industry in both technical and managerial roles with Shell, Arco and Vico. His contributions have made a significant impact on the geoscience community, with leadership roles including PESA SA/NT Branch President, AAPG Vice President (International Regions), Chair of the AAPG House of Delegates, President of AAPG Asia Pacific Region. John is the recipient of multiple honours and awards including AAPG Honorary Member, Distinguished Service Awards, International Ambassador Award, and the Sidney Powers Award (AAPG’s most prestigious award).
John brings his decades of international and domestic experience and global connections to PESA with the intention of attracting more technology-hungry younger members to the society while continuing to provide interesting and timely geoscience-cum-networking opportunities to our more senior members.
