Dr Bruce Ainsworth has wrapped up his successful tour of the PESA State Branches presenting his work honouring the humble clinoform, kindly sponsored by Santos. Read on to hear more from the different branches visited.
NSW
Dr Bruce Ainsworth kicked off his tour in Sydney where 22 eager PESA members came together at the Castlereagh Boutique Hotel. Whilst numbers may seem low, NSW President Phil Cooney was keen to point out that those are higher than the usual lunch meeting and feedback of the event was positive.
VIC/TAS
Another day, another lunch this time Bruce was in Melbourne for the Victoria/Tasmania branch where he was welcomed by a small but enthusiastic crowd.
WA
Bruce’s visit to Perth coincided with the first lunch held in the new Venue upstairs at the Melbourne hotel. Bruce’s talk was well appreciated by the 44 attendees, and the new venue got a vote of confidence too.

SA/NT
The Petroleum Exploration Society of Australia (SA/NT) branch kicked off the new year technical program on 26 February 2026 with two presentations for the 27 attendees at Ayers House! The main event, Honouring the humble clinoform, was presented by the eminent Dr Bruce Ainsworth. Drawing on his years of hands-on experience, he guided the audience through the what, the how and the why it matters of clinoforms, cleverly using a football (soccer) metaphor, to deliver his message in his usual entertaining and informative style. Having now been ‘vaccinated’ to recognise the clinoform condition, I trust this timely piece will trigger our G&G brains, to first determine if our fields are made up of clinoforms and if so, which tactics are the most appropriate to deal with the geometries and resource recovery realities.
All in all, a great start the 2026 technical luncheon season!

QLD
Thursday 5th March saw Bruce wrapping up his Australian tour with a final presentation to the PESA Queensland branch. The event attracted close to 40 attendees who gathered at the Stamford Plaza for a delicious 2 course lunch whilst listening to Bruce’s insights into the importance of understanding your clinoform-associated heterogeneity. Bruce’s energy and enthusiasm were as high as ever, giving no indication that this was his fifth and last time presenting the talk. Like SA, it marked a great start to the 2026 Qld technical program and it was great to see a diverse range of companies represented in the attendees.
