Our 2026 AGM was held on Monday 18th May in Adelaide. It was smooth sailing through the official parts, and we were happy to celebrate the announcement of our 2026 Barry Goldstein Award winner; Professor Ken McClay.
We also handed over the 40-year (!!!) continuous membership certificate to Mick Small. All other certificates were taken by the Branch Presidents to be handed over at Branch events throughout the year.

The PESA conference booth was organised and staffed by volunteers from the SA/NT Branch, as well as a number of interstate members. It was a great place to reconnect, and reconnect we did!
If anyone wonders how many geologist it takes to put up a banner…. the answer is four (4)!

The booth looked excellent though, with a range of people dropping in and connecting with us throughout the conference and exhibition. We got a number of offers for technical papers and/or webinars, so watch this space!

As every year, PESA sponsored the “Year in review” session at the AEP conference on Wednesday afternoon. Presentation were provided by Andrew McKerron from Beach (Exploration Year in Review), Martin Wilkes from RISC (Production and Development Year in Review) and Dr Anne Forbes (Business Environment Year in Review). With over 70 (!!) attendees this was definitely one of the most popular technical sessions.
Martin’s presentation has already been shared as a webinar, and we hope to get others up there as well.

We raffled off a donated bottle of South Australian Wine, the photo below shows John Kaldi (Federal VP) with the lucky winner, Ben Loffelman of Bureau Veritas.

Several of us attended the formal opening of the GeoEnergy Laboratories at Adelaide University. We hope to get them to provide us with a Gazette article, but hereby some happy snaps. The objective of these labs is not just research focussed, but also for doing STEM outreach with school kids. And well, who doesn’t like dinosaurs?

Finally a couple of happy snaps from the various conference events (note that your federal team attended the welcome event at their own expense!).
