Shearwater has announced collaboration with NVIDIA for optimization of the most compute-intensive algorithms in the Reveal seismic processing software for NVIDIA’s high-end GPUs (graphics processing units).

Shearwater said a growing number of companies in the energy sector were using Reveal to enhance their seismic data and it was strategically important to continue to develop the software solution and ensure that Reveal can be run efficiently on their clients’ existing and future GPU-accelerated hardware.

“By optimising Reveal’s most intensive imaging algorithms to work efficiently on NVIDIA’s solutions, we are strengthening our product offering and position for future growth,” said Simon Telfer, SVP Software, Processing & Imaging, Shearwater.

“This is one of several collaborations centred around Reveal which reflect our commitment to invest in technology development to ensure that we deliver the market leading geophysical software and services our customers need.”

Shearwater is working with NVIDIA to port and optimize the most compute-intense of Reveal’s core algorithms to the NVIDIA CUDA computing platform and programming model. The company said this would enable optimal scaling and accelerated compute performance of Reveal’s algorithms on NVIDIA’s GPU hardware. Shearwater will also support increased visibility and commercial penetration for NVIDIA’s solutions within the Reveal customer base.
