Victorian Opposition supports lifting gas ban

25/02/2020 Posted by Dale

APPEA has welcomed the announcement by the Victorian Opposition to support lifting the state’s moratorium on conventional onshore natural gas development.

APPEA Chief Executive Andrew McConville said Victorian homes and business would continue to bear the cost burden if the politically-motivated ban on gas development remained in place.

Gas is critical

“Natural gas will continue to be a significant source of energy for Victoria for decades ahead, and a sensible position on onshore resource development is needed for all…

$1.28m ARENA backing for AGN to establish the Australian Hydrogen Centre

25/02/2020 Posted by Dale

Australian Gas Networks Limited (AGN) has announced that it had been awarded funding of $1.28 million from the Federal Government’s Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) to support the Australian Hydrogen Centre (AHC) to explore the feasibility of blending hydrogen into natural gas networks.

The AHC has also received funding support from SA’s Department for Energy and Mining and Victoria’s Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning. Other AHC Founding Members include gas and energy infrastructure business AusNet Services, and leading renewable energy companies, ENGIE and Neoen.

CGG has announced that it had completed the wind-down and exit from its land seismic data acquisition business after completing its last land seismic acquisition contract in Tunisia.

Following on from the company’s recently announced exits from seabed and marine data acquisition, this milestone marks the successful completion of CGG’s strategy to exit the seismic data acquisition business, the company said.

To date, CGG still retains a minority shareholding in the ARGAS company operating in the Middle East.

Marine geophysics company PGS said it was using its digital transformation process to accelerate strategy execution and had entered into an agreement with Cognite to expedite this process.

In cooperation with Cognite, PGS has launched two digitalization workstreams aiming at improving fleet performance; refining approaches to optimize fuel consumption and reducing maintenance cost by actively monitoring equipment via contextualized data.

“As part of our digital transformation journey we are partnering with Cognite in order to extract the full value of our vessel operations and assets.…

“It is regrettable that a commercial solution could not be found to prevent NOGA entering liquidation, but the Government will do everything it needs to do to protect the safety and security of the Northern Endeavour production vessel to…

Australian LNG cargoes not affected by coronavirus but broader market is impacted

11/02/2020 Posted by Dale

“Suddenly, the global LNG market is being buffeted from all directions. The market was already soft with a warm winter in North Asia and rapidly growing US production. Now the outbreak of the coronavirus has hit oil prices (to which Australian LNG prices are indexed) and spot LNG prices.”

This is according to the latest EnergyQuest report which revealed that  Brent had started the month at US$67.05/bbl (A$96.03/bbl) and rose to US$70.25/bbl (A$101.34/bbl) but then fell steadily through…
