Production has started from Train 2 at the Wheatstone Project’s onshore facility near Onslow in Western Australia.

Woodside announced that production from the Chevron-operated LNG plant, fed by offshore gas from the lago, Julimar and Brunello fields, had commenced and was running smoothly

Woodside CEO Peter Coleman said the safe start-up had demonstrated the success of the project as part of Woodside’s growth strategy and the company’s legacy of safely delivering domestic gas and LNG to Western Australia and the world for over 30-years.

“We are very pleased Train 1 to date has run above nameplate capacity and we will continue to support the operator to maximize reliability to achieve top quartile performance,” Coleman said.

“I commend the teams involved, the spirit of collaboration and the support our staff have provided, once again demonstrating the exceptionally high standard of LNG capability in Western Australia.”

The Wheatstone LNG project produced first gas in October 2017 and the maiden LNG cargo was delivered to JERA a month later.

Woodside said Wheatstone’s two trains were an important addition to the six Woodside-operated trains on the Burrup Hub in Western Australia and a significant contribution towards Woodside’s targeted production of approximately 100MMboe by 2020.

The company added that in support of Wheatstone production, Woodside is progressing concept definition for Phase 2 of the Julimar-Brunello Project which will tie-back the Julimar field to the existing Brunello subsea infrastructure that is connected to the Wheatstone offshore platform.

“The next milestone for Wheatstone will be successful commissioning of the domestic gas plant, targeted in the second half of 2018, adding to Western Australia’s strong and secure energy supply,” the company said.
