Wood Wins Contracts to Deliver Emissions Reductions on Australian Gas Projects
Global consulting and engineering company Wood has secured contracts with Beach Energy and Mitsui E&P Australia (MEPAU) to deliver solutions to achieve emissions reduction targets.
Wood said these strategic projects will reduce emissions intensity in line with Australia’s National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act, which is driving a reduction in emissions baselines1 by 4.9 percent each year before 2030.
Applying innovations in maintenance, operations and brownfield engineering, Wood is focused on reducing carbon emissions at Beach Energy’s facilities across Australia and New Zealand and MEPAU’s Waitsia Gas Project in Western Australia.
Under these contracts, Wood said it was designing programs to improve operations and plant reliability while optimising energy use and electrification.

APPEA: ‘Victorian Home Gas Ban Ignores Importance of Gas in Net Zero Energy Mix’
The Victorian Government’s gas ban for new homes ignores the fundamentals of the energy system transformation to net zero including the importance of gas as a partner to renewables in reliable electricity generation.
The Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association (APPEA) today said the Government’s policy shifts the burden on to consumers, pushing households on to an already strained coal-based electricity grid and ignoring the urgent need for new local gas supply to reduce emissions and put downward pressure on prices.
APPEA Chief Executive Samantha McCulloch said: “With more than 60% of Victoria’s electricity coming from coal, the focus should be on reducing emissions from the power sector, through renewable energy and firming gas power deployment, before adding to power demand.
