Shearwater GeoServices returns to Atlantic Margin for TGS
Shearwater GeoServices has been awarded a new contract by the Multi-Client geophysical company TGS for the second consecutive year. The contract is for a seismic survey on the Atlantic Margin in the Norwegian Sea which is expected to take approximately three months and is scheduled to be completed by the end of September, 2018. The 2018 survey will cover 5,135 km2 and will be performed by one of Shearwater's vessels which will utilize FlexiSource and a wide tow spread. In 2017 Shearwater acquired 29,500 km2 of FlexiSource data for TGS, including 17,700 km2 for the TGS Atlantic Margin project.

On the Topic of Lithostratigraphy and Sequence Stratigraphy
PESA WA Branch hosted their March technical talk with over 70 people attending, with special thanks to our four sponsors: Spectrum (Platinum), CGG (Gold), Searcher Seismic (Gold) and DUG (Gold). After a delicious lunch, the WA Branch Vice – President, Victoria Seesaha, opened the meeting with the Branch updates.

Stepping out on an ancient coastline at Peppermint Grove
Following the first technical talk of 2018, PESA WA Branch hosted the first evening field trip in partnership with the Geological Society of Australia (GSA) on 6 and 8 March, run over two evenings to cope with demand. Dr Milo Barham, an expert in Sedimentology and Stratigraphy from Curtin University, led the field trip which focused on exploring the well-exposed, Pleistocene-aged Tamala Limestone. The mini field trip covered six stops along a charming pathway next to the Swan River, stopping at various outcrops for observations and discussion before leading to the next.

Successful 2018 start for PESA WA Technical Series

At the commencement of the luncheon, WA Branch President Helen Debenham opened the first technical series of the year with the usual Branch introduction, with special thanks to our sponsors, before announcing all the new and exciting upcoming 2018 Branch events to an audience of over 70 people.

Carnarvon’s Buffalo Project
Perth based junior oil and gas company Carnarvon Petroleum has been working with seismic reprocessing firm, DownUnder Geosolutions to provide an update on Carnarvon's Buffalo project. Quality new seismic data has recently been received showing clear definition around the Elang formation, the producing reservoir in the Buffalo oil field. With this new data the reservoir in this region is clearly identifiable on seismic and has been reconciled with important well data within the oil field.
