Gas industry commits to boosting economy with Finocchiaro Government

29/08/2024 Posted by Dale

Northern Territory’s oil and gas industry looks forward to working with the incoming Finocchiaro Government on the sector’s strategic plan to power the economy.

After an election campaign in which both major parties supported gas development, Australian Energy Producers has committed to work with Chief Minister-elect Lia Finocchiaro to deliver the economic benefits of the industry’s five-point strategic plan, Powering the Territory.

Australian Energy Producers’ NT Director David Slama said: “The oil and gas industry congratulates Lia Finocchiaro on her election victory and looks forward to working with her government.

DUG officially launches elastic MP-FWI imaging solution

29/08/2024 Posted by Dale

DUG Technology (DUG) has officially launched its latest seismic data processing, imaging and interpretation solution — DUG Elastic Multi-parameter Full Waveform Inversion (MP-FWI) Imaging. The announcement was made at The International Meeting for Applied Geoscience and Energy (IMAGE ‘24) in Houston, Texas, where DUG will be showcasing results from all of its latest geoscience technology.

DUG’s new elastic solution builds on its already successful acoustic MP- FWI imaging technology, which has now been applied to over 40 projects across the globe, delivering real-world impact to clients.

DUG Elastic MP-FWI Imaging utilises superior physics to remove the assumptions and approximations of both traditional processing and imaging, and traditional quantitative interpretation workflows.

Denison Gas Granted Two New Exploration Permits in Southern Bowen Basin

29/08/2024 Posted by Dale

Denison Gas has been granted two new exploration permits in Queensland’s southern Bowen Basin, giving Denison greater exposure to Australia’s east coast gas market.

The new permits follow the appointment of Denison as preferred developer for three new exploration areas by the Queensland Government in June this year.

Denison now has satisfied all pre-conditions for the formal granting of permits for two of the three exploration areas, resulting in the permits for Authority to Prospect (ATP) 2073 and ATP 2075 on 16 June 2024.

Notably, the location of both the new areas enables seamless integration into Denison’s existing operational activities.

Perth’s Pivotree Unveils Subsea Production Tree Designed to Unlock Stranded and Marginal Oil and Gas Field Profits

28/08/2024 Posted by Dale

Oil and gas technology company Pivotree has built and tested a full-scale prototype of its groundbreaking integrated subsea production tree and vessel mooring system.

Inventor and Pivotree Managing Director Chris Merrick said the Pivotree TM technology has the potential to revolutionise offshore energy development, making previously marginal and stranded oil and gas fields both profitable and sustainable.

Designed and built in Perth, Western Australia, the 44-tonne full-scale prototype combines traditional subsea tree technology with several new elements that allow it to swivel, providing 360-degree mooring capability for offtake vessels.

“In combination, the Pivotree and FPSO represent a fully functional and self-sustaining field development concept that requires no additional infrastructure such as spread moorings, platforms, flowlines, pipelines and manifolds,” Mr Merrick said.

Santos’ Wilga Park is now Powering Thousands of NSW Homes with First State Gas

28/08/2024 Posted by Dale

Santos’ Wilga Park Power Station is now producing enough electricity to power 32,000 homes in New South Wales and it’s all being done using locally-sourced natural gas.

Santos is pumping around 4TJ/day of natural gas to Wilga Park, where it’s converted to electricity for the state’s power grid.

Santos Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Kevin Gallagher said 4 TJ/day is just the start of the region’s energy generating potential.

“The gas is coming from our appraisal wells near Narrabri, which were drilled to help determine how much natural gas is right under our feet, here in NSW,” Mr Gallagher said.

MOL Pakistan makes three new discoveries in TAL Block with Razgir-1 exploration well

28/08/2024 Posted by Dale

MOL Pakistan has announced three significant gas discoveries in the TAL Block, located in an area where the company has operated in for 25 years and produced hydrocarbons for 19 years.

The Razgir-1 exploratory well was spudded on 9 January 2024, and drilled to 3,950 meters. Three successful well tests were conducted in three separate geological formations. MOL is the operator of the TAL Block and has an 8.4 % share of volumes produced.

MOL spudded the Razgir-1 well in January 2024 and completed it ahead of the target date.

Acreage Release Restrictions Reading the ‘Last Rites’ on Offshore Exploration in Australia

15/08/2024 Posted by Dale

The ink had barely dried on the Federal Government’s Future Gas Policy announced in May and the euphoria was short lived barely a month later when Canberra belatedly announced new exploration export permits for the 2022 offshore acreage release.

Those with a glass half full attitude might toast Resources Minister Madelaine King – who often appears to be fighting a lone crusade in Canberra on behalf of the mining and oil and gas sector – for reaching this milestone two years later, but for many others in the geosciences sector the alarm bells started ringing.

The Department...

Arrow Energy Surat Gas Project North Expansion to start in late 2024

15/08/2024 Posted by Dale

Arrow Energy has announced a major expansion of its 27-year Surat Gas Project (SGP) to an area north-east of Miles in Queensland’s Western Downs.

Known as SGP North, the development will bring more than 130 terajoules of additional gas to market per day for long-term contract and domestic customers. The expansion is part of the SGP development, which will have the capability to produce more than 4000 petajoules of gas over the life of the project.

Construction on SGP North is scheduled to begin later this year, with infrastructure to include up to 450 new gas production wells, a new field compression station, 27km of pipeline, and road and infrastructure upgrades over two phases.
