A/Prof at University of Melbourne
Kevin Hill is a structural geologist who has over 40 years’ experience in industry and academia. He is an Oxford graduate who worked for BP in Canada and London in their structural specialists group and completed a PhD on the PNG fold belt at the University of Melbourne. He taught at La Trobe and Melbourne Universities and consulted with many companies in Australia and SE Asia, working on seismic interpretation, balanced and restored cross-sections, 3D structural models for gold and gas exploration. Kevin worked for 10 years on PNG with Oil Search Ltd. Kevin now teaches courses in structure and basin resources, including CO2 and hydrogen storage, geothermal energy, water and hydrocarbons. He continues with fold-belt and basin margin research at the University of Melbourne.

Annual General Meeting
The PESA South Australia/Northern Territory Branch invites all members to attend the 2026 Annual General Meeting (preceding the Christmas Luncheon). This important event provides a valuable opportunity to reflect on the year’s progress, recognize our collective achievements, and plan for the year ahead.
The AGM will be held immediately prior to the PESA SA/NT Christmas Luncheon, offering members the chance to engage in both professional discussion and seasonal celebration.

Christmas Luncheon
Geology and Ancient Civilizations in West Anatolia, Türkiye

Abstract
Kevin will take us on a touristic view of some of the geologic structures of western Türkiye and discuss how geology has been a major control on human development of the area and on civilisation in general. The (geologically) serious part will briefly show the development of grabens, metamorphic core complexes and some recent wells, and then some tourist shots to welcome the festive season. The talk is based on an excellent AAPG field trip to the area.
