Guest Speaker(s): Andrew Farley
Andrew Farley graduated from the University of Newcastle (Australia) in 2002 with a BSc in Geology. He has over 20 years of experience working with onshore oil and gas operators on exploration and development projects in all five mainland states of Australia. Prior to joining Strike Energy in 2012, Andrew worked with AGL Energy in Sydney. Andrew has held a number of technical positions at Strike Energy, becoming GM Subsurface and Exploration in 2023. Andrew led the subsurface team during the design and execution of the company’s Exploration and Development projects, most notably the West Erregulla, South Erregulla and Walyering fields in the Perth Basin. Andrew is a member of SPE, PESA, SEAPEX and the Australian Geothermal Association.

The Perth Basin: Seven years of learnings

Abstract:
Exploration in the Perth Basin commenced back in the 1960s, but it was the discovery of the Kingia gas play by AWE Energy in 2014 that kicked off the latest round of exploration and development. The Waitsia gas discovery inspired Strike Energy to enter the basin in 2018 with success at West Erregulla 2 in 2019 proving that porosity and permeability continues to preserved despite greater depth. To date, Strike has drilled 13 deep wells and acquired 6 new seismic surveys across the Permian Kingia and Jurassic Cadda/Cattamarra plays. This has led to the discovery of 4 new gas fields, one of which is now on production, and two which are being developed.
