The Caroline carbon dioxide field, located in the SA portion of the Otway Basin, commenced production in 1968 and ceased production in 2016.
A report on the field was completed in 1997 for the SA Mines Department Mesa Journal. The report covered the discovery, geology, production, markets and interpreted origin of the gas. At the time of the report, the one well field was somewhat of an oddity, given the “hydrocarbons” produced, but surprisingly, the well was at that time, the most valuable in SA.
This presentation summarizes the full history of the field.
