Following the success of the previous year’s events, PESA SA/NT is pleased to announce this year’s half-day core workshop at the South Australia Drill Core Reference Library in Tonsley on Friday 28th October 12.00 – 4.30pm.
This year’s workshop takes an exciting new focus – Peter McCabe (Emeritus Professor, Australian School of Petroleum and Energy Resources, University of Adelaide) will present “New insights on the depositional environments of the Patchawarra Formation in the Cooper Basin” including recent research which has thrown new light on the depositional environments of both the siliciclastic strata and the coal beds. Examination of the core will be accompanied with information on logged core, carbon isotope plots and zircon dating of tuffs. New data provides insights into the rates of sedimentation, the nature of the volcanoes that erupted the tuffs, and the dramatic global warming that took place during deposition of the Patchawarra Formation. The core workshop will allow participants to explore these concepts in more detail and, most importantly, challenge the new interpretations. The Core Workshop will start at 12, includes a sandwich lunch and finishes around 4.30pm with an optional stop at the Tonsley Hotel. Coffee and tea making facilities are available at the core facility. Who should attend? Geoscientists, sedimentologists, petrophysicists, engineers, academics & geoscience students who wish to view a variety of South Australian petroleum core. Cost: $25 for PESA Members, $35 for Non-Members, no-charge for students (up to five places). Bookings close 5pm on Monday 24th October unless sold out prior. Places are limited so please book early. Location: The South Australia Drill Core Reference Library is located in the heart of the newly revitalised Tonsley Precinct, adjacent to South Road. Attendees should make their own way to the Tonsley Precinct. There is ample car parking and public transport (by road or rail).
