led by David Grybowski
Sunday 19th July 2026
9am to ~3pm
(Rescheduled from May 24th)
Frustrated driving through the Adelaide Hills and still not understanding the Geology?
This excursion will familiarize participants with the geological formations, folds and faults of the Adelaide Hills by orientating the outcrop and faults with the road network and geomorphology. We will go up gullies and gorges from Montecute Road to Morialta to Chambers Gully via Mt Lofty, where we’ll have a BYO lunch.
Logistics:
This is a self-drive field-trip. There are 6 stops and 8 drive-by points of interest where we cannot stop due to lack of parking.
A short walk of less than 1 kilometre on steepish track is required at Morialta and another of about 2 kilometres in Chambers Gully.
Bring your own lunch.
We’ll start 9 am at the Tower Hotel carpark on Magill Rd and return there at approximately 3 pm.
Optional post field trip (self-funded) drinks at the Tower Hotel.
Car-pooling required as parking in some locations is restricted.
On board geological commentary will be provided.
Detailed instructions and excursion notes will be sent to those who sign up.
