From a carbonate ramp to siliciclastic turbidite deposits in a tectonically active Cambrian rift. What is going on?
A great opportunity to see spectacular coastal exposures of two fascinating formations.
We will examine two contrasting Early Cambrian formations – carbonate ramp deposits of the Sellick Hill Formation and clastic turbidites of the Carrickalinga Head Formation. Dr Rhodri Johns and Elinor Alexander will lead the field trip.
Meet at the Myponga Beach south carpark at 10am. Once we have investigated the Sellick Hill Formation exposures it’s a short drive to Carrickalinga Head to look at the turbidite facies. Finishes mid-afternoon.
Self-drive field trip – car pooling encouraged. BYO lunch.
Optional post field trip stop at the Fork Tree Brewery – separate purchase.
