PESA NSW: May 2026 Technical Lunch
Guest Speaker(s): Greg Channon
Mr Greg Channon is a geoscientist with 40 years of international experience in the oil and gas industry, holding diverse technical and leadership positions. He is currently the Chairman of Xstate Resources. Greg provides technical consultancy services to Australian Carbon Vault, TMK and Enzed Energy. He has worked for companies large and small, including Delhi Petroleum, Santos, Fletcher Challenge Energy, Shell, Swift Energy, Brightoil, and Elixir Energy. Greg’s expertise spans exploration, operational, and commercial disciplines and has served on the Board of Directors for companies listed on the ASX, NYSE, TSX, and HKSE.
The Taroom Trough – The next big thing?
Activity in the Taroom Trough of the Bowen Basin Queensland is ramping up considerably in 2026. The unconventional play, considered by many to be Australia’s first proven Basin Centred Gas (BCG) accumulation, will see significant seismic and well activity in 2026. Large and small companies alike are staking their positions, with activity at an all time high. Over the coming years, we will see a raft of companies including majors, such as Shell and Santos, new players Omega and Elixir and the newest entrant into the Trough, Xstate Resources, working towards commercial breakthroughs. Greg will give a brief history of the Taroom Trough from an unconventional perspective, describe the play in detail and provide insight to some of the more important drilling results and preview the upcoming activity in the region.
