Guest Speaker(s): Dr Alex Bruce

Dr Bruce was appointed Chief Geoscientist of Empire Energy Group Limited  in March 2020 to work the company’s Beetaloo Sub-basin unconventional shale assets in the Northern Territory.

Dr Bruce has over 20 years of upstream oil and gas experience working for operating companies. Prior to joining Empire, he was most recently with Cooper Basin focused player Bridgeport Energy and has served in similar roles with other mid-cap ASX oil and gas companies including AWE (now Mitsui), Drillsearch Energy (acquired by Beach Energy) and ROC oil.

Dr Bruce is immediate past President of the NSW Branch of the Petroleum Exploration Society of Australia, is a member of SPE and AAPG and earned his PhD from the University of NSW in reservoir characterisation using machine learning.

Australia’s Shale Gas Boom Starts Here

Empire Energy Group Limited (“Empire”) looks to emulate the unconventional shale gas boom in Australia that transformed the US energy landscape. Empire holds acreage in the Beetaloo Sub-basin, within the Greater McArthur Basin in the Northern Territory. That acreage holds stacked Velkerri Formation shales that Empire is currently appraising and has delineated 1.6 TCF (2C) Contingent Resources and 30 TCF (2U) of Prospective Resources. The journey of exploration to appraisal will be discussed in the talk.
