Abstract:
The Bonaparte Basin is marked by the development of a wide (ca. 630 km) continental shelf where carbonate and siliciclastic sediments accumulated during the Late Pliocene and Quaternary (ca. 3.5 Ma BP onwards). This unusually large platform is associated with an up to 200 km-wide, lowgradient intra-shelf basin (ISB) that reaches 220 m water depth at the present day.
