Abstract:
Recent well correlations have shown four regionallyextensive Upper Permian limestones in the Bonaparte Basin. The regional extent and mapability of these carbonates dictates revision of Upper Permian sequences. The Cape Hay Member and Tern Member of the Hyland Bay Formation are included in the upgraded Hyland Bay Sub-group of the Kinmore Group. A new unit, informally referred to as the Penguin Formation, is introduced, and two informalmembers within the Mt Goodwin Formation are proposed.
The formations recognised, redefined and upgraded are listed below:
Upper Mt Goodwin Formation (informal name);
Lower Mt Goodwin Formation (informal name);
Penguin Formation (new name);
Tern Formation (upgraded status);
Hyland Bay Sub-Group (upgraded status);
Upper Dombey Formation (upgraded status);
Lower Dombey Formation (upgraded status);
Cape Hay Formation (upgraded status);
Upper Pearce Formation (upgraded status);
Lower Pearce Formation (upgraded status).
The Torrens Member (new name) is not formally defined.
