Abstract:
In recent years the geophysical industry has changed from analogue cables to digital marine streamers, with an increase in the number of the groups and the corresponding fold of coverage. Unfortunately this change has not always provided the commensurate increases in data quality expected. This paper outlines a successful method which BHP Petroleum, in conjunction with Geophysical Services International, has employed using a new digital streamer with the capability of providing array formed, taper-weighted groups.
This new cable has been fully field tested in four Timor Sea permits and all the differing array forming options analysed. The results have shown that data quality can be sufficiently increased to resolve the structural and stratigraphic complexities of the permits operated by BHP Petroleum in the Timor Sea.
