Abstract:
Crude oil samples from Blina, Meda, and Great Sandy wells have been subjected to detailed chemical analysis using gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The results have been interpreted in terms of thermal maturity of source beds, source type, and effects due to depositional environment. Some differences are apparent between the samples. The Meda sample was released from more thermally mature source rocks than were the other crude oils. Although the type of organic matter appears to be broadly similar for all samples, the depositional environments of the Blina source beds were appreciably more anoxic than the others, resulting in very efficient preservation of organic matter.
