Abstract:
EP's 205 and 252 cover a relatively unexplored area of 30,000 square kilometres in the Southern Canning Basin. To date, no wells have been drilled in either permit, subsurface data therefore being limited to reconnaissancegravity and magnetic surveys and 700 kilometres of seismic data.
Geophysical interpretation has shown the presence of structural and stratigraphic leads along the southern flank of the Kidson Sub-basin and has revealed reverse faults trending NNW-SSE. Structural style in the area is consistent with a N -S dominated dextral strike-slip regime. A review of well data from adjacent locations reveals that good to excellent reservoir rocks are present in Permian and Devonian sandstone sequences. Source potential for oil occurs in the Goldwyer shale and for gas in the Pre-Ordovician carbonaceous Shale Beds and Permian formations.
