An award of $1,500 is available for any full-time student who is enrolled at a South Australian or Northern Territory tertiary educational institution and is undertaking a substantial research project concerning petroleum or related basin energy resources.
Annual Prize for Full-Time Students
Each year, the South Australia – Northern Territory Branch of the Petroleum Exploration Society of Australia and Santos Ltd award $1,500 to a South Australian or Northern Territory full-time student in their Honours year or who is undertaking a substantial research project on petroleum or related basin energy resources for their Masters or PhD Degree.

Eligibility
Each eligible candidate must be a member of PESA. They must be currently enrolled as a full-time Honours, Masters or PhD degree student with a South Australian or Northern Territory tertiary education institution. They must also be currently undertaking a petroleum & energy resources-related research project.
Their research project must be related to petroleum exploration and development, or associated energy resources development (CO2 storage, H2 storage, deep hydrogeology, geothermal resources). Academic technical disciplines involved could include geosciences, chemical or petroleum engineering, physics, law, environmental science, applied mathematics, economics, and geography. There are no restrictions on the geographic location of the project area.
Selection
Candidates will be assessed on:
- their academic record
- their curriculum vitae
- the relevance of their current research project to petroleum & energy resources exploration and development
- their personal circumstances
- comments from their nominated referee
