Abstract:

Hydrocarbon generation and preservation have been demonstrated at numerous, widely spaced localities within the Surat Basin. Reservoir extent and properties have been and are likely to continue as the chief factors limiting any potentially economic discovery.
Facies distribution maps of the interpreted environments within the Lower Jurassic Evergreen Resistivity Marker (ERM) to Pre Jurassic unconformity interval indicate a number of areas of high exploration potential in the unexplored central portion of the basin. Detailed water, regional log evaluation and velocity studies have indicated the potential for structural, hydrodynamic, fault and stratigraphic traps on the eastern and north eastern margins of the basin.
Modern methods of seismic data acquisition and processing are considered necessary for the adequate remapping of the areas of interest.
