Abstract:
At a casual glance through the economic sections of the main newspapers a reader will notice that in the last few years in several countries, including Australia, new projects have emerged in the so-called hydrogen economy. The author of this review took the opportunity to educate himself in what this cryptic syntagma means and a by-product of this undertaking is the analysis of this book. Apparently, the term was coined in the early 70s after the 1973 oil shock when western countries saw hydrogen as a clean fuel that will free them from the dependency of oil imports from politically unstable Middle East. However, for the following 50 years hydrogen’s use was limited to the petrochemical and chemical industries.
