Abstract:
Accurate knowledge of the speed at which seismic waves travel through subsurface rocks is critically important for seismic processing, imaging and interpretation, in essence because seismic data is acquired in the time domain, whereas prospect evaluation, reservoir modeling and well engineering are all undertaken in the depth domain. The connection between these two domains is the seismic velocity.
