Abstract:
Data has long been regarded as a re-useable assetproviding the basis of decision-making within an
organisation. Much effort has been put into defining data
structures that best fit the business requirement to allow
this vital asset to be properly managed. The emerging
trend is to ensure that the information derived from data
and the reasoning behind it are readily available and
accessible for sharing with other parts of the organisation.
Doing this mobilises the collective intellectual might of
the organisation and is the product of leveraging value
from the investment in data acquisition. The ultimate
measure of value is in the quality and speed of decisionmaking.
The consequence of the decision leads to the
'Getting of Wisdom', (from the book of the same title by
author Henry Handel Richardson, 1910).
