Abstract:
The Darling Basin in western New South Wales contains a thick sedimentary sequence and the hydrocarbon potential of this sequence is virtually untested. On a base case forecast the New South Wales gas market will require around 2000 petajoules (PJ) in the 15 years to the year 2015. It is proposed that now is the time to start active exploration in the Darling Basin to allow any gas discoveries to be ready to compete for a share of a gas market valued at $4 billion to $6 billion in today' s prices.
