“To draw us out of the depths of our mid-winter hibernation, the SSIG has the perfect Friday afternoon core viewing for you.
We’ll get you to picture balmy, hot tropical days on the beach watching the inland sea slowly evaporite before your eyes creating a vast expanse of super-saline water perfect for gently floating on, with no nuisance mosquitoes (or any insects for that matter) to annoy you. If you haven’t already guessed it is time to head into Pre-Cambrian and enjoy the salty section of the Geological Survey of WA’s Lancer-1 core. We’ll spend some time looking at the salt, as well as wandering up and down in time and looking at the events leading up to the evaporite deposition and the lay of the land after the lovely sea had dried up. Then we can admire the scenery in the depositional cycles that overlay it, eventually building up enough pressure above the salt to start it flowing like toothpaste.
Come and join us in discussing the stratigraphy and sedimentology of Lancer-1 at GSWA’s Carlisle Core Library where we will also have some experts on hand to discuss the section and the changes in palaeoenvironment that we are seeing in the rocks (and salt) on the start of the new financial year from 1pm onwards.”
At 4pm there is chance to network with the other attendees and continue the discussion over drinks. PESA supplies nibbles, but drinks are at your own expense.
Don’t forget to book early as we have a hard limit of 30 attendees and every previous SSIG meeting has been fully booked out.
Member price $10. – If you can’t see tickets below, check whether you have renewed your membership this year.
