The Tithonian of the North Carnarvon Basin
For this instalment of the SSIG core viewing we are heading back in time to the Tithonian and wandering into the vast beauty of the North Carnarvon Basin, where not only did Angels not fear to tread, in fact they left a trail of sediment for us to follow that wends it’s way from the shelf edge all the way into the abyssal darkness. If you haven’t guessed already we get to look at the Angel Formation and have picked 5 key wells in this succession (Angel-4, Lambert-2, Cossack-2, Wanaea-4 and Dixon-2) to see the wonderful facies changes in this Tithonian sequence as it transitions from the shelf margin, down the slope and finally into a set of well penetrations through the turbidite fan. For this core session Vincent Crombez and Darren Ferdinando are joined by Robert Seggie who will help guide us through the changes in depositional patterns that we see in the core and assist with identifying some of the key features and sedimentary structures that are critical in interpreting depositional environments.
This is a core viewing not to be missed for those at are interested in facies variations along the shelf margin, shelf slope and then out into the deepwater palaeoenvironemnts, but hurry and book fast as they sessions sell out very quickly! (probably because we charge a pittance for you to attend and they are packed full of geological goodness)
A chance to network with the other attendees and continue the discussion over drinks. PESA supplies nibbles, but drinks are at your own expense.
Don’t forget to book early as we have a hard limit of 30 attendees and every previous SSIG meeting has been fully booked out.
Member price $10. – If you can’t see tickets below, check whether you have renewed your membership this year.
This event is for members only. This is for insurance purposes. Please do not book on behalf of non-members. Please do not attend if you do not have a ticket.
