PESA NSW: The Geology and Petroleum Resources of Venezuela

Phil, currently the president of the NSW-ACT Branch of PESA, is a geophysicist with over 40 years of experience in the exploration for and production of Oil and Gas. Phil worked in Venezuela from 1992 to 1999 based in Caracas, Anaco and Maracaibo, working for the state oil companies of Maraven, Lagoven and PDVSA and private companies, Ampolex and Tecpetrol. Earlier from 1979 to 1982 Phil worked in the adjacent country of Colombia for Provincia Petroleum a local subsidiary of Exxon Corp.
Phil graduated from the University of Sydney with a M.Sc. (Geophysics and Geology) and from the University of Technology Sydney with a M.Ed. (Adults)

PESA NSW invite you to our technical luncheon. Presented by Phil Cooney (PESA NSW President).
Venezuela, located on the northern edge of South America, is only slightly bigger than NSW yet it has produced an estimated 50 billion barrels of oil to date and still contains oil reserves of over 300 billion barrels (more than the 267 billion barrels of Saudi Arabia) and 18% of the world’s reserves. Phil will talk about the extraordinary fit of Source, Reservoir, Seal and Migration Timing that resulted in Venezuela’s mega accumulations as well as a brief description of how and when they were discovered and the effect on Venezuela itself.
