Scott Dyksterhuis Leader with strong technical, commercial and management background across all business stages of Oil and Gas both in Australia and overseas with ExxonMobil, Oil Search and Santos. Experience with leading large technical teams and projects, leading Transformation teams, developing technology as well as managing Mergers and Acquisitions of assets up to US$20B. I am passionate about leveraging technical insights to bring a unique perspective to identify and pursue value. Proven oil finder - key role in technical and commercial analysis as well as leading the very successful farm-down process that enabled the drilling and discovery of the ~1.4 billion barrel Liza oil discovery in Guyana, one of ExxonMobil’s largest oil discoveries, and establishing one of their most profitable lines of business with >10 billion barrels of oil equivalent discovered to date Rod Limbert Rod Limbert has a BSc (Hons) from the University of New England. He worked as a geophysicist at WAPET for 7 years before joining Esso Australia. Initial work was as a geophysicist before undertaking a number of management assignments. He then spent 4 years in Indonesia as Exploration Manager before being assigned to Houston with Exxon and then ExxonMobil. He spent 15 years in Houston in exploration management positions in the US onshore, Canada, Yemen, South America and New Business development. During the time he was Exploration Manager for South America he was responsible for the identification and capture of the Stabroek Block in Guyana which is the subject of his talk.

Guyana – 10 billion barrels and counting

In 2015 ExxonMobil discovered oil in the Stabroek Block in the deep water of Guyana, South America.  Subsequent discoveries have resulted in announced reserves of 10+ billion barrels.

First oil commenced in December 2019 with a second development coming on line this February. Current production capacity is 340,000 barrels per day.

This talk will describe
– The rationale for the pursuit of this opportunity in 1997
– A detailed review of the Lisa discovery

Lastly the talk will make some observations relative to the pursuit of frontier acreage opportunities
