The Deepwater Future of Global Exploration
Presented by Neil Hodgson (Searcher)
Abstract
Recent huge exploration successes across the world have common attributes; deepwater, repeatable, and prior to the drilling of a discovery well considered high risk. Particularly in deepwater frontier basins, risk evaluations are dominated by uncertainty yet the hydrocarbon potential of the new plays in can be extraordinary. In this seismic-driven presentation we will roam a number basins looking at both recent and future mega-discoveries, thinking about uncertainty, recognizing that “frontier” need not mean high risk, seeing what uncertainty collapse does to frontier basins, and asserting that the future of low carbon energy exploration lies in deepwater frontier basins.
