Guest Speaker(s): Diane Hinson (Advisian)

Diane is a Senior Associate in Advisian with more than 20 years’ experience in Oil and Gas, Chemical, Petrochemical and Alternative Energy sectors. She has a chemical engineering degree and is a chartered engineer with experience across the asset lifecycle, which allows her to provide a holistic view of risks, impacts and opportunities. Her background includes leadership roles in project ideation, startups, EPCM, project development, engineering design, construction, commissioning, operations and digitisation.

Diane is passionate about envisioning and solving technical, organizational or even industry-wide problems using collaboration and is driven by outcomes. She has been the founding director of the H2Q Queensland Hydrogen Industry Cluster and is currently the chair of the H2Q Regulations and Safety working group, which equips her with industry insight on the challenges of future energy industries.

Hydrogen – the Hype and Reality

Abstract

Many areas of the world have made commitments to reduce their carbon emissions, giving rise to electrification, renewable energy developments and future fuel industries such as hydrogen and its derivatives. The hydrogen industry is in its nascent phase and whilst there is progress in its development, the gaps need identifying, risks need addressing and barriers overcome before it can reach its full potential. In this talk we will understand the current status of the industry and unpack the key challenges such as the lack of end-use markets, economics, infrastructure and safety to achieve a pragmatic view of the effort required to mature the industry.
