2025 PESA WEBINAR SERIES: Kenmore: A Case Study for Static Modelling in a Mature Oil Field (Talline Zarzavatjian)

Tuesday, 25 November @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm (Australia/Perth time)
Free – $10.00

Guest Speaker(s): Talline Zarzavatjian

Talline Zarzavatjian is a development geologist with 20+ years in the industry. She has a demonstrated history of working in both operated and non-operated assets across multiple basins globally. She started her career as a graduate geologist with Enterprise Oil, London where she gained offshore experience on the Nelson Field in North Sea and later in the programme had the opportunity to build her first geological model of the Hod Field in Norway. She later joined Roxar software Solutions, where she gained valuable modelling experience by using and supporting their geomodelling software package, IRAP RMS. In 2005, Talline joined Tullow Oil where she held a senior geologist role in both the London and Cape Town offices. Projects included geological model builds of various Southern North Sea gas fields to support an active infill drilling programme, modelling of the Chinguetti Field, offshore Mauritania to assist the operator, Petronas, with a field development project and most notably, being part of an extensive exploration and appraisal drilling programme across Uganda’s Albert Rift Basin. This required regional and field-scale geomodelling work to support an impressive drilling campaign which saw 28 out 29 successful wells. Talline moved to Sydney in 2010 where she joined Drillsearch Energy as a senior development geologist leading significant modelling efforts in the Cooper and Eromanga Basins. This work, together with Beach energy, led to a very successful drilling campaign in the Western Flank and the discovery of the Bauer Oil Field, which at the time was the 3rd largest oil field in the basin. Since 2016 Talline has been based in Sydney as a consultant, delivering full static model builds, uncertainty analyses, volumetric evaluations, and data room contributions.

Kenmore: A Case Study for Static Modelling in a Mature Oil Field

Presented by Talline Zarzavatjian

Abstract

The Kenmore field, located in the Cooper-Eromanga Basin, has been producing oil since 1985 and is moving into late field life. At the time of the project several work-over opportunities existed in the field, with Kenmore-43, a previously cased and suspended but yet to be completed well, identified as one of the best candidates to potentially improve field production. Focusing on the Jurassic Basal Birkhead and Hutton intervals, a geological model was built to capture a range of possible static outcomes, test each case dynamically and once matched, forecast the potential production if Kenmore-43 were to be perforated. The modelling work was closely integrated with the simulation results and was continuously refined to obtain the best possible history match. In all cases that achieved a match, Kenmore-43 was identified as a viable economic opportunity which followed through with a very successful workover. The project highlighted the value of integrated static and dynamic modelling and how this not only improves understanding of the field but also has wider implications for other opportunities both within Kenmore and analogous fields in the basin.
