Abstract:
Although Dalhousie Anticline is only one of a number of breached, regional anticlines around the southwest margin of the Eromanga Basin, the structure is of special interest because it illustrates more geology of this part of the basin than any other single anticline, or area of comparable size, in the region (Fig. 2). This fact has resulted from a fortunate coincidence of geographic position and a somewhat larger than average fold amplitude. Thus the anticline is sufficiently far east, or basinwards, to include the youngest major unit of the Eromanga Basin sequence - Winton Formation. It is this variety of geological features displayed so close to each other that makes Dalhousie Anticline a particularly interesting example of Eromanga Basin geology. The purpose of this paper, then, is to briefly describe the exposed Mesozoic stratigraphy, and to summarise in a general way the structural growth of the anticline by examining the exposed local structure and related Cainozoic deposits.
