CGG announced that it has an agreement with Société Nationale des Hydrocarbures (SNH), the National Oil and Gas Company of Cameroon, to promote enhanced multi-client E&P data packages and interpretative products, in support of Cameroon’s 2018 Onshore & Offshore Licensing Round opened and conducted by SNH for eight free blocks on offer, located in sedimentary basins offshore and onshore Cameroon. The Licensing Round opened on 15th January 2018 and will close on 29th June 2018.

Significant Italian gas discovery confirmed for Po Valley
Strong gas flows on test have confirmed a significant commercial discovery for Australia’s Po Valley Energy Limited at its new Selva gas field in northern Italy. The company announced the strong gas flows had resulted from successful flow testing of the recently drilled Podere Maiar 1dir exploration well on the Selva gas field within the Podere Gallina Exploration licence in northern Italy (PVE 63% Operator; United Oil & Gas Plc 20%; Prospex Oil & Gas Plc 17%). That drill program intersected two identified gas reservoirs, C1 and C2, in the Medium-Upper Pliocene sands of the Porto Garibaldi Formation.

Polarcus goes on a seismic safari in South America
Dubai-based marine geophysical player Polarcus has received a commission for the acquisition of a 3D marine seismic project in South America. Dubai-headquartered Polarcus said that the project would begin in the first quarter of 2018 and was scheduled for approximately two months. The company was coy on details, declining to reveal any financial details, the name of the vessel to be deployed or the name of the commissioning company. The latest deal comes after Polarcus recently extended a collaboration agreement with Norwegian geophysical player TGS for an additional year.

Polarcus and TGS extend agreement by another year
Marine geophysical company Polarcus has extended a collaboration agreement signed in October 2016 with Norway’s TGS for another year. The multi-client and vessel agreement made provision for both companies to jointly select 3D multi-client projects. The new agreement extends TGS’ vessel commitment with Dubai-headquartered Polarcus to the end of 2018 for up to 10,000 sq.km. Polarcus said the recently announced XArray project in the Gulf of Mexico with TGS forms part of this commitment and that additional awards under this commitment will be announced separately.

WA gas report warns of declining exploration consequences
An independent review of Western Australia’s gas market highlights the urgent need for more exploration to secure future supply. The Australian Energy Market Operator’s annual WA Gas Statement of Opportunity (GSOO), released recently, warns of a gas shortage in the west if new supply is not developed in the next five to seven years. The report shows exploration in WA in 2017 was at its lowest level since 1990.

Polarcus gets permission for seismic survey in Australia
Polarcus has secured significant industry prefunding and has been granted the environmental permit for a broadband 3D marine seismic project in Australia. Polarcus did not provide details on the project, but the Australian offshore safety regulator NOPSEMA has revealed that the project is called the Zénaïde 3D. NOPSEMA recently accepted the environment plan for the project, a three-dimensional multi-client marine seismic survey to be undertaken in Commonwealth waters located approximately 50 km off the Kimberley coast of northern Western Australia.

OGA releases free UK offshore seismic data
The Oil and Gas Authority in the United Kingdom has released the $35 million government-funded seismic data to promote exploration in under-explored areas of the UK and the North Sea. The datasets, now available to industry and academia, will support the next Offshore Licensing Round, set to open in mid-2018, and contains 19,000km of newly acquired broadband seismic data, new gravity and magnetic surveys, approximately 23,000km of reprocessed legacy seismic data and a rejuvenated set of digital well data, in addition to various supplementary reports.

AWE delivers flow test record from Waitsia field
AWE Energy has popped the bubbly, celebrating one of the highest onshore flow rates in the Australian oil and gas industry. The Sydney independent oil and gas producer revealed that the Waitsia-4 well in the Perth Basin flowed gas at an instantaneous maximum rate of 90 million standard cubic feet per day from the Kingia Sandstone and an average of 89.6 MMscf/d on a 96/64 inch choke at ~2,395 psig flowing well head pressure over a 23-minute period.

Chevron cans Great Australian Bight exploration program.
Oil and gas supermajor Chevron described the Great Australian Bight as one of Australia’s most prospective frontier hydrocarbon regions, but said the suspension of its exploration endeavours in the area was because it could not compete in the current low oil price scenario. Chevron Australia managing director Nigel Hearne commented: “We appreciate the strong support from governments, regulators and the local community for our plans to explore for hydrocarbons offshore South Australia. We are confident the Great Australian Bight can be developed safely and responsibly, and we will work closely with the interested stakeholders to help realize its potential.

Chevron acquires exploration acreage offshore WA
Chevron Australia has announced its affiliate has successfully acquired exploration interests in three offshore blocks located in the Northern Carnarvon Basin off the Western Australia coast. Chevron Australia Managing Director Nigel Hearne said this new acreage strengthens Chevron’s position in Australia’s premier hydrocarbon basin where there is an established network of production infrastructure, including the Chevron-operated Gorgon and Wheatstone Projects. “Offshore Western Australia is a global focus area for Chevron and these new exploration blocks add to our already significant gas position as the largest resource holder and liquefaction owner.
