Abstract:
Although Early Cambrian marine deposits occur in the Flinders Ranges, Amadeus, Ngalia and Officer Basins and the southwestern parts of the Georgina Basin, initial inundation of the northern suite of Central Australian Basins (Georgina, Wiso, Daly, Bonaparte, McArthur and Ord Basins) did not commence until the early Middle Cambrian. This period of transgression led to the deposition of carbonates phosphorites, phosphatic carbonates, organic-matter rich shales and siltstones belonging to biostratigraphic sequences 2 and 3 of Shergold (this volume) and stratigraphic sequences 2 and 3A of Kennard and Lindsay (this volume).
