Abstract:
For a frontier intracratonic basin with no identified petroleum reserves, the Officer Basin (at least in its eastern part) is remarkably well endowed with oil shows. These occur within six different formations and belong to four genetically distinct oil families, implying the existence of multiple effective source rocks. Oil-prone organic facies (two Neoproterozoic, two Cambrian) have been'identified and characterised in terms of their source richness, kerogen type, biomarker signatures and thermal maturity.
