Abstract:
While diapirism has been a closely studied geologic process, previous studies have been primarily concerned with either the halokinetic process within the diapir itself or with the geometric architecture of the diapir and surrounding rocks. This work has developed a good understanding of the physics of salt flow and a general picture of the diapiric process and its close relationship to settings in which differential loading of an evaporitie sequence induces salt mobilisation.
