Abstract:
The Canning Basin, onshore Western Australia, is highly prospective for conventional and unconventional hydrocarbons, as well as Uranium and sediment-hosted base metal deposits. The basin has evolved since the Early Ordovician undergoing both extensional and transpressional tectonic regimes. The transpression events are associated with significant uplift and have impacted heat flow and fluid migration pathways in the basin. Although the Kidson Sub-basin is the largest sub-basin of the Canning Basin, the uplift history is not as well understood due to sparse drilling activity and data collection in that region.
