Abstract:
Data from 12 new marine magnetotelluric (MT) stations have been acquired on the ocean-bottom of the Spencer Gulf, extending the land MT profile that crosses the Eyre Peninsula. The primary goal of the project was to determine the feasibility of collecting broadband to longperiod MT responses in water depths of less than 200 m across the continental shelf. The Spencer Gulf transect was acquired to address the continuity of nearby major low resistivity anomalies imaged in AusLAMP models and earlier studies. Modelling progress reveals some low resistivity zones in the mid-to-upper crust over several tens of km. The modelling process is continuing in conjunction with a full geological interpretation.
