Abstract:
Recent technology improvements allow gaining a digital 3D replica of natural rock using fast and non-destructive tomographic techniques. Combining core-scale images from medical X-Ray with micron resolution images from micro CT scanners, natural rocks can be in principle scanned reproducing micrometre details of the meter-long cores. However, successful benchmarked laboratory experiments studies of permeability upscaling to meter scale, typically used for reservoir simulations, are still in their infancy. In this study, we experimentally and numerically study permeability of Boise reservoir sandstone.
