Abstract:
High density seismic has been synonym of high-quality subsurface images and attributes for more than 2 decades now, and although firstly made available by innovative source technologies, the receiver side was lagging behind with bulky, heavy cables and nodes, preventing it from reaching the full potential of an unlimited channel count system. More nimble receiver systems were required to respond to the continuous need for better seismic images at a lower cost, lower environmental impact, and lower HSE exposure not only for Oil&Gas exploration but also any other industries that uses seismic as their main source of information of the subsurface, like Geothermal and CCUS. In this paper, we will introduce the story behind the invention of a new generation of nimble nodes and how it has already disrupted the way seismic is being acquired, especially in difficult terrains, making high density seismic finally accessible to all industries.
